New DataSETUP publication: Investigating Student Teacher Engagement with Data-Driven AI and Ethical Reasoning in a Graduate-Level Education Course

We are pleased to present the results of the latest DataSETUP study by our project members Maria Meletiou-Mavrotheris, Dionysia Bakogianni, Yianna Danidou, Efi Paparistodemou, and Alexandros Kofteros. They investigated how pre-service teachers interact with data-driven AI, machine learning, and ethical reasoning as part of a DataSETUP module.

The study shows that integrating data-driven AI and ethical reflection in teacher education is crucial to prepare future teachers for the challenges of a data-driven world. Some of the key findings are listed below:

  • Pre-service teachers developed both technical fluency and ethical awareness when working with data-driven AI.
  • Pre-service teachers demonstrated emerging pedagogical reasoning, making spontaneous connections between AI/ML concepts and classroom practice.
  • Critical data literacy is essential for preparing future teachers to guide learners in navigating and questioning a data-driven world.
  • Integrating ethical reflection with technical practice supports pre-service teachers’ readiness for responsible AI and STEM education.

The article “Investigating Student Teacher Engagement with Data-Driven AI and Ethical Reasoning in a Graduate-Level Education Course” has been published in Education Sciences (MDPI) and can be accessed here.

A heartfelt thank you to the authors for their excellent work that led to this high-quality publication!
