Looking back: DataSETUP at ICOTS12 in Brisbane!
We look back on a successful participation and representation of the DataSETUP project at the 12th International Conference on Teaching Statistics (ICOTS12), held in Brisbane (Australia) from 12 to 17 July 2026.
Lisa Birk, Luca Jotzo and Sibel Kazak from the DataSETUP project held a Pre-Conference Workshop called “Data Science for Future Teachers – Letting DataSETUP Modules Come to Life!”. Together with teacher educators, we explored selected DataSETUP modules and discussed how data science can be meaningfully integrated into teacher education.
DataSETUP was also represented in the ICOTS12 programme through two presentations:
- “Exploring Messy Data in Teacher Education Using the EDUCATE Framework” by Sibel Kazak, Aisling Leavy, Luca Jotzo & Susanne Podworny
- “Bringing AI and Data Science into STEAM Teacher Education for Responsible and Active Citizenship” by Maria Meletiou-Mavrotheris, Dionysia Bakogianni, Efi Paparistodemou & Yianna Danidou
ICOTS12 provided a wonderful opportunity to share and discuss our work with the international statistics education community, receive valuable feedback, and exchange ideas about the future of data science and AI in teacher education.
As DataSETUP enters its final months, these conversations are particularly valuable for reflecting on our work and considering how the project’s ideas, modules and resources can continue to support teacher educators and future teachers beyond the project.
A big thank you to everyone who joined our workshop, attended the presentations, and shared their ideas with us! 😊
