Piloting “Who does play what?” – first insights into a DataSETUP module at the GDM 2025
๐๐ก Bringing Data Science into University-level Pre-Service Teacher Education!
At the 2025 German Annual Conference on Mathematics Education (GDM), we presented our project DataSETUP! ๐โจ Our goal: Integrating data science into teacher education, because statistical & data literacy are crucial for the future! ๐
๐ฉโ๐ซ Our interactive modules, like “Who Plays What?” on digital gaming engage students in hands-on data exploration activities using digital tools. Here are some of our first insights from the piloting of the very first DataSETUP module:
๐ Key findings: โ Pre-service teachers actively engage with data before formulating research questions through our module โ a promising sign for data literacy! โ Communicating results effectively remains a challenge โ more support is needed and will therefore be tackled in one of our next DataSETUP modules. ๐ Many pre-service teachers set their own research focus, highlighting the importance of working with multivariate and motivating data sets.
Weโre refining our approach and expanding our modules! Stay tuned.
