The module PISA data and what we make of it aims at enabling preservice teachers to critically reflect media claims on PISA results by deconstructing them along the different data science processes of the EDUCATE framework. To do so, preservice teachers work with a newspaper article, deconstruct the claims and consider how these necessary steps towards the claim are communicated in the article. To provide a better example in a letter to the editor, they then work with a random sample of that data and reflect on what should be done differently when reporting on statistical claims. The module therefore ultimately aims to develop informed, reflective educators who can engage responsibly with large-scale assessment data and communicate research-based conclusions with clarity and accuracy.
