This module introduces pre-service teachers to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and its role in shaping educational discourse. Participants will examine how PISA data is generated, interpreted, and communicated, with particular attention to the gap that can emerge between empirical findings and media narratives. By analyzing both the study’s methodology and its public reception, students will learn to critically reconstruct how results are produced, how interpretations arise, and how these interpretations influence educational debates. The module ultimately aims to develop informed, reflective educators who can engage responsibly with large-scale assessment data and communicate research-based conclusions with clarity and accuracy.
